Building regulations changed three years ago (in 2004) as a step to reduce the amount of unregistered gas installations. All new boiler installations can only be for condensing boilers. One advantage a condensing boiler brings is it increases the value of your house. When selling your house you will be able to provide a CORGI certificate in your sellers pack, as the house is fitted with a condensing boiler. Without having a condensing boiler you may have difficulty selling your house.
You are also now required to have building consent to have a gas boiler fitted .However, since we have completed the energy efficiency course then the installation can be self certified.
Plumbing is now a problem with condensing boilers as the water vapor creates a fog.

What kind of boiler do you have in your home?
Conventional
Two water tanks in the loft ( a large cold water and a small feed and expansion tank.)
Boiler heats water in the cylinder that is feed from the large tank.
The cylinder holds a large capacity of water allowing a greater through put of water than a combination system (for example more than one person could be supplied with hot water at a time.)
The expansion tank absorbs any expansion of water in the central heating.
A cylinder can boil cold water in half an hour.
Combination
A limited flow of hot water compared to earlier conventional types.
A very fast boil rate of water.
Requires far less space than conventional systems.
Generally will be more energy efficient since it is more of an on demand system.
Condensing
Approximately ten percent more energy efficient than a combination boiler.
