Over time electrical installations deteriorate so should be occasionally tested. The recommended re-test period is ten years. The inspections are known as periodic inspections and the next due periodic inspection date should be written on your fuse board. Additionally if your house was last wired other thirty five years ago the house will need to be re-wired to meet modern standards.
Before resetting the fuse by pushing the button your should determine if the fault is caused by an appliance, if not, then an electrician should be called to inspect your wiring. If you do not have an RCD fuse you must make sure any replacements fuses are not of a larger value than the original one.
If your fuses are not an RCD you should consider installing RCD fuses. It is law for RCDs to be installed on sockets that could be used to power electric gardening tools. Therefore as this law suggests RCDs substantially reduce fatalities from electrocution. They drastically reduce the time taken for the electric circuit to be broken.
